Butterflies



Today I went to the nearby river and sat on a rock next to the water. I watched some minnows swimming, a large tadpole leaping around, and the wind in the grass across the water. Then I noticed four black butterflies flying just over the water. They flitted around and chased each other. When a few of them flew closer to me, I noticed they were actually a deep blue colour. A dragonfly that was black with a blue head and a blue band on its tail landed near me. I tried to get it on my finger but it flew away. I saw some white butterflies everywhere. When I was walking home a large black and white butterfly flew near me. It was a type of swallowtail and it had some brownish spots on the bottom of its wings. I followed it for a while along the pathway. It soon flew away. I love watching nature.

While an undergraduate student at Andrews University I took a poetry class. I studied some of A.E. Stallings' poetry. She studied lots of classical poetry and literature of Greece. She does translation of poetry from Greek to English. An interesting thing she said was that when she was at university to study ancient, Greek poetry, she came across some poems that described early springtime flowers such as hyacinths blooming at the same time as later spring flowers. She interpreted that as a "golden age". She was later surprised when visiting the Greek countryside and finding those flowers blooming at the same time . She said that sometimes we do have to take things literally. This poem gave me the chills when I first read it. It is so deep and dark. So, I haven't been posting lately. I have been busy working on my Master's Degree in English and a Master's Certificate in Human Rights. I have been enjoying my studies overall. I have been challenged a lot by studying Chaucer this semester (hey, that guy lived six hundred years ago).  I hope to get at least a B in that class. I worked on my degree last summer, taking one class over Summer Session I and two over Summer Session II to get things done and over with.  I got an A and two A- grades.  I have been trying to stay afloat with this semester. I ended up with one late paper for Chaucer due to my factory job I had at the time and time management.  I ended up losing a letter grade, which made me upset. I decided that I have had enough of Facebook. I have been contemplating deleting my account.  I have already deleted my Twitter at least a year ago.  I also don't have Pinterest or Instagram.  I know that I use Facebook too much.
