Hip hop started in the Bronx Burroughs of New York City in the 1970s. It started as a way for people to come with issues such as racism, gender identity, national identity, and being LGBTQ. Hip hop and rap music is often about violence, as many city neighborhoods deal with a lot of violence each year.
