Flower Show in Ilsan


Today I went to the Flower Show at Lake Park in Ilsan. The show was held in a few buildings and also had some outdoor exhibits. There is a rose garden (jangmi won) nearby.

I found the Rose Garden first. I noticed some nice roses named after Japan's child princess Aiko.

Inside the exhibition hall there were exhibits of table settings, flower arrangements, and crafts with dried flowers.

This reminds me of someone I knew named Gracie.


Believe it or not, this map is made of dried flowers.


I believe this orchid is on the cover of the book I read called The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean which became the inspiration for the movie "Adaptation". In that book I learned of the obsession with orchids that collectors have. I see how it can easily be developed.

I believe this one was from Thailand.
These are from the Rare Orchid Exhibit.
There were some gems there.

looks good Christine, I had planned to go there but I had lot of things to do, I guesse you snooze you loose........
is it over I think from the advert it was up to 10 may right?

While an undergraduate student at Andrews University I took a poetry class. I studied some of A.E. Stallings' poetry. She studied lots of classical poetry and literature of Greece. She does translation of poetry from Greek to English. An interesting thing she said was that when she was at university to study ancient, Greek poetry, she came across some poems that described early springtime flowers such as hyacinths blooming at the same time as later spring flowers. She interpreted that as a "golden age". She was later surprised when visiting the Greek countryside and finding those flowers blooming at the same time . She said that sometimes we do have to take things literally. This poem gave me the chills when I first read it. It is so deep and dark. So, I haven't been posting lately. I have been busy working on my Master's Degree in English and a Master's Certificate in Human Rights. I have been enjoying my studies overall. I have been challenged a lot by studying Chaucer this semester (hey, that guy lived six hundred years ago).  I hope to get at least a B in that class. I worked on my degree last summer, taking one class over Summer Session I and two over Summer Session II to get things done and over with.  I got an A and two A- grades.  I have been trying to stay afloat with this semester. I ended up with one late paper for Chaucer due to my factory job I had at the time and time management.  I ended up losing a letter grade, which made me upset. I decided that I have had enough of Facebook. I have been contemplating deleting my account.  I have already deleted my Twitter at least a year ago.  I also don't have Pinterest or Instagram.  I know that I use Facebook too much.
