Moving On Now

I am glad that I got to meet up with old friends and make some new friends in Korea. I was glad to be near Seoul so I could easily meet up with people there, even if it did take me about an hour to get there. I liked being near Sahmyook University because the other teachers there made me feel at home. Some students would sometimes talk to me as well. It does look like I won't be there for a while. At least until the end of summer I may just make few, if any, appearances at Sahmyook. I will have another church to attend regularly. It's just that I will be spending time with my new students and living in a new place.

I have realized that even though I do like being in Korea, it's not all that necessary. Most people come and go after a few years. After I left in 2006, I kept vowing to come back. The mistake I made was that I didn't get on with my life enough. There is a life outside Korea. Whenever I leave this place can just be a new beginning and life can go on. Even if I had to leave now, I can accept that.

This is the lesson your familiy was trying to teach you. Wandering aimlessly from place to place or back to old places, in the end, usually leads one nowhere. But settling down and achieving a goal to advance your career, near friends and family who can help, is often a good path to follow.

But such is life.

While an undergraduate student at Andrews University I took a poetry class. I studied some of A.E. Stallings' poetry. She studied lots of classical poetry and literature of Greece. She does translation of poetry from Greek to English. An interesting thing she said was that when she was at university to study ancient, Greek poetry, she came across some poems that described early springtime flowers such as hyacinths blooming at the same time as later spring flowers. So, I haven't been posting lately. I have been busy working on my Master's Degree in English and a Master's Certificate in Human Rights. I have been enjoying my studies overall. I have been challenged a lot by studying Chaucer this semester (hey, that guy lived six hundred years ago).  I hope to get at least a B in that class. I worked on my degree last summer, taking one class over Summer Session I and two over Summer Session II to get things done and over with.  I got an A and two A- grades.  I have been trying to stay afloat with this semester. I ended up with one late paper for Chaucer due to my factory job I had at the time and time management.  I ended up losing a letter grade, which made me upset. I decided that I have had enough of Facebook. I have been contemplating deleting my account.  I have already deleted my Twitter at least a year ago.  I also don't have Pinterest or Instagram.  I know that I use Facebook too much.
